Scission was a improvisational noise band from Connecticut, ranging between 2 and 8 members during its life span. Scission also featured many guest performers. Their sole public performance was an apocalyptic three hour set on Easter Sunday in 2001.

Scission embraced chaos in their entirely improvisational sets. Scission sometimes recorded in "glorious monophonic" and employed other various unorthodox methods for recording material, and consequently, the "production value" aspect of their sets generally took a backseat to the importance of the energy at hand. During their brief life span, 7 albums were released and over 60 hours of raw material was recorded. Much of this material has still never been released.

This album is a document of Scission's only live set at the now defunct New Haven, CT club 'Funktion'. Here is what I had written at the time the album was released.

"Easter '02 Show 03/31/02
Everything fell apart. 48 hours before the show we found out Luke would not be able to make it. We were still labeling cables and making sample discs until five minutes before we left. We had no plan for the gear setup. Izzy's walkie talkies (for vox) kept picking up cell phones (this actually ended up working out for us) We were still working with the club's sound guy trying to get the amps set up properly (and finding cables that could reach them) as people were showing up. Half of our instruments were coming out of the speakers on one side of the club and the rest of us were coming out of another set of speakers. There were no monitors. We out the free drinks were limited to three each.

We did two totally improvisational sessions totaling 3 1/2 hours. This disc is the best of the show cut down to under 80 minutes."

I had left out many details such as Izzy dressed in a bear suit gutting a giant stuffed bunny on stage, or Alex wearing a giant wig while chatting up audience members from the stage. Maybe some of these details are best left unmentioned.
